    Backgrounds We Look For
    We seek smart, driven individuals who can contribute expertise gained from a variety of past experiences. Our staff of industry specialists includes PhDs, MBAs, and a number of professional designations including CFA charterholders. But you don’t necessarily need a business degree or a finance background for every role at Morningstar. We prize both creativity and analytical ability; a varied, interesting background gets our attention. You’ll find people at all levels of the company with degrees that range from Russian literature to history, English, and psychology.

    It’s more important to us to find people with the abilities that will help them thrive within Morningstar’s culture. We look for applicants with an outstanding academic record, varied work experience, and leadership potential. We value independent and creative thinkers who have excellent communication skills. An interest in or experience with investing is helpful, though not essential. Regardless of your personal interests, you should be guided by a strong desire to change things for the better.

College graduates can kick off their career in the Morningstar Development Program with a view into different aspects of our business. Program participants have the chance to contribute to our next generation of great products for investors and interact with company leaders, all while gaining hands-on experience. We also offer paid year-round and summer internships so that students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs at colleges and universities worldwide can gain on-the-job experience.
